Dakota Dreams slipover

Image
Dear Diary, J esse :  Earlier this year I posted photos of some garments I was trying to knit for Adam. They don't look all that flash because I was attempting - poorly - to make up a proper pattern.  I am certain that people must think I am one of the worst knitters on the planet. So, just to give everyone an idea of my abilities as a knitter, I am posting photos of a slipover I just completed a couple of days ago.   This cannot rightly be termed a "Fair Isle" pattern because none of the patterning is according to traditional Fair Isle design.  It is more properly termed "stranded knitting"; the knitting technique is the same. The front side of "Dakota Dreams" knitted with Knitpicks' "Palette" colourway knitting wools. The colours are very beautiful (I hope your monitor reflects that).  The "Palette" colourway is wide and lovely.  I have never used these knitting wools before as I always knit with authentic...

New kids on the block

Dear Diary, A dam:  This story is a bit old but because of being off the computer, it didn't get told.  I've been saving it to tell everyone once we were back online.   We have a nanny goat named Stoney who was given to us when some friends moved and their new property didn't have enough land to support grazing her.  Little did we know when she arrived to live here that she was pregnant.  Over the course of time she got wider and wider and we waited the arrival of her offspring. On 20 September, I did my morning chores and said hello to the goats.  Later in the day, I went out to the barn to do some chores and as I passed the goat pen I looked in.  To my surprise, this is what I saw: Stoney, Max & Lola Stoney had given birth to twins!  This pair couldn't be more than about 8 hours old.  That must have been some delivery! The next day I went to do my chores and the family was already out of the barn and playing.  The ...

New Year's resolutions

Image
Dear Diary, A dam :  It's the day after New Year's Day and we are just getting around to writing a list of resolutions for 2016.  This is my first full year here and I want it to be wonderful for all.  Angelo and I decided we would make a secret list of our goals for this new year.   "OK, Angelo; what should we write on our list of resolutions?" "But, Adam, there's nothing on the list!" "Come down here and help me!" A ngelo :  We spent a lot of time thinking about our resolutions and finally came up with a list of things we can do to improve in this new year.  It looks like Adam has more items on the list than I do!" "We're not going to tell anyone so no one will be able to chide us for not living up to our resolutions!" A dam & A ngelo :  We wish to all our friends that you spend 2016 dancing to the tune of love and laughter!

Happy Christmas

Image
Dear Diary, The boys and Santa Claus under the Yule tree. A dam ;  It's Christmas Day and we're celebrating.  The weather is stunning - sunny, blue skies and hot and blessedly, no wind.  It's the perfect Christmas Day in the southern hemisphere.  You'll notice that I'm wearing my summer kit - shorts, T-shift and jandals.  The other day I saw Santa Claus in shorts! Staying cool in the middle of summer. A ngelo:  I love Christmas!  We have a special new tree this year, decorated with vintage New Zealand toys, in particular the Marylou doll.  And, underneath, prezzies for the family.  I love opening my gifts to see what great things I was given. "Check out my festive snowman socks!" A dam , A ngelo & J esse :  We wish all of our friends in cyberland a very happy Holiday season.  There are lots of reason to celebrate this day, from the summer solstice here at the bottom of the globe, to the winter solstice...

We're back!

Image
Dear Diary, J esse:  It's been a long three months since we last wrote anything here.  Needless to say, this has been a very trying time for us - technically speaking - given all the problems with computers and phone cameras.  In spite of professional assistance, we've been unable to get back online until today and we are happy to return.  I promise we'll write very frequently.  Many apologies to everyone who has been looking and waiting for word from us.

Knickerbocker boy

Dear Diary, A ngelo :  I am a spoiled boy - really I am.  I have a fantastic wardrobe, almost all of which has been sewed by Ruth in England.   When people see my clothes in real life, they just can't believe the attention to detail, like real buttonholes, buckles, and trims.  Long ago Papa sold off all the Trendon factory-made outfits as he considered them historical but poorly made when compared to my outfits from Ruth.  We first started to buy clothes from Ruth in around 2001 when I first came to live with my Papa.  At that time Ruth lived in a small village in England and didn't have good access to a large variety of fabrics.  So, Papa would go to the mega fabric stores and purchase cuts of different fabrics. He would then attach a photo from an advertisement which showed the kind of garment he wanted made.  Ruth always came through with the best coat, hat, suit and etc. Papa ordered a new outfit for me as a surprise and it came a li...

Please stay tuned. We're experiencing some technical difficulties.

Dear Friends, I recently purchased a new computer - a Mac - and I trying to find my way around it.   Currently, the biggest problem I'm having is figuring out how to download my photos so I can put them on this site. Regrettably, I am not from the techno-savvy generation, so this has posed quite a challenge for me. Please don't abandon the three of us.  Angelo, Adam and I don't want to lose any of our friends.  Hopefully, by the end of this week we can post some more entries. With warmest regards, Jesse
